A journey Continues Update#004


Hello Again!

Hope everyone has had a good week.  As ussual we have been working on Clover, and are happy to report we have again made more progress. During our last dev log we set some goals that we wanted to accomplish.  To keep things short, we fell a bit short as our new character reveal doesn't have an animation yet, but to compensate for that we do have a second character to reveal.

The first character we want to reveal goes by the name of `River` and he can be found all over the world.  He is a laid back otter who likes to find the next best fishing spot. He doesn't always catch much, but enjoys observing the world and trying to figure out puzzles without interacting with them.

The next character we have is called `Kit`  and they are a ghost. The reason for their unfortunate passing we don't want to discuss, but they are a friendly ghost. Kit also likes to explore, and with their new ghost form they are able to take that exploration to the next level.

Finally we the game play updates. We did a small overhaul to the overworld, or level select screen. It now has nodes and you have to clear the previous level before you can move on to the next. The nodes also come in different colors to denote if the level has been cleared or not. There is also a color for if a secret exit is available, but we have not implimented any secret exits yet. Additionally clovers movement has been updated to allow for coyote time. This should make jumping around edges much easier. We did notice while updating this movement that jumping into slopes can be kind of weird, and we have created a bug for us to come back to and improve.

Goals for next update:

  • Idle animation for River so we can include him in some levels
  • Level redesign: introduce controls and concepts in a more constructed fashion
  • Player profile saves to track levels completed and collectables

This Update:

  • Over world/Level select


    • Nodes with flashing colors to denote status
    • Levels unlocked with level clear
  • Clover movement: Coyote jump for better edge jump feeling
